FISHING FOR REDFISH

Upper Hand Pensacola Fishing Charters with Captain Brandy Wallace

Redfish, also known as Red Drum, are the most popular fish caught on our inshore fishing trips. Juvenile redfish live inshore until they reach about 30 inches in length (about 4 years old). They are plentiful in the marshes and estuaries of Pensacola Bay, Escambia Bay and throughout Pensacola's system of coastal bays and wetlands. This is where we catch slot sized juvenile redfish (keepers), highly sought after for their taste as well as their fight.

Once redfish reach about 30 inches, they migrate through Pensacola Pass to join the adult redfish population living nearshore. In these nearshore Gulf waters, adult redfish, known as bull reds, will grow to 30 or 40 pounds with 52 lb. 5 oz being the Florida state record. We can sight fish for these big bull reds along the coast year round on our Pensacola offshore fishing charters. During the late autumn, Pensacola has its own "Running of the Bulls" when thousands of spawning bull reds enter Pensacola Bay to feed.
