FISHING FOR GROUPER

Upper Hand Pensacola Fishing Charters with Captain Brandy Wallace

Grouper are powerful fighters and a lot of fun to catch. They are also some of the best tasting seafood you can catch! Grouper, like Snapper are bottom dwelling reef fish that inhabit the wrecks, ledges and artificial reefs off the coast of Pensacola. We usually target Grouper along with Snapper when bottom fishing on our Pensacola offshore fishing charters.

Like Snapper, there are also many different species of Grouper living off the coast of Florida. Black, Red, Warsaw and Snowy Grouper typically are in season year round. Gag Grouper, which have even been caught in Pensacola Bay on inshore fishing trips, have a limited season.

The huge Goliath Grouper is a protected species. If you do hook into one of these monsters, its unforgettable. Adult Goliath Grouper usually weigh about 400 pounds but can grow much larger. The Florida state record is 680 pounds! Other Grouper species can grow quite large as well. Black Grouper can grow to 200 pounds and Warsaw Grouper can reach 350 pounds although most grouper caught on Pensacola fishing trips are in the 20 to 50 pound range.
